The recent weather and abit of marketing

Finally, after over one and a half years of experiencing a major drought which caused us to go into water restrictions, our rain prayers have come true. The wettest week in my 5 years in Australia! I have never heard of storms this bad and the closest thing I have heard of is the 1974 Brisbane floods.

Thankfully, I wasnt directly affected by the storms other than getting drenched in the rain, attempting to dry my clothes(on what seemed liked a perfectly sunny day) out during the rain and experiencing my closest encounter with lightning on the way back from work on a train, seeing a lightning bolt strike a tree along a road near Roma Street railway station(unfortunately I didnt have my camera handy and dont have lightning speed reflexes)

Others werent so lucky and amongst the minor disasters include:-
-Overnight power shortage.
-Property Damage.
-A major highway(which alot of people take to work) gets closed down due to flood pump malfunction.

I have attached a video taken by a certain David Bowden(whom I see regularly at dance), through Hamish’s facebook.

Its a taster of what happened down in The Gap and I dont think David was affected since he managed to produce the video, meaning that he has electricity and internet! Not to mention, he has such a great sense of humour and  was able to make a joke marketing plug joke at the end! Actually, I dont know which it is, what I do know is, I actually did go to the URL. Do wait till the end, its really worth a good laugh in light of recent events!

ps – Queensland, the “sunshine state” should have its title stripped after the past weeks weather =( It should be more like, Queensland, Melbourne no. 2(cause crappy weather…” is the number 1 thing everyone who goes there for holidays say)

(photos)Sunday October Salsa Fest 5 – Buena Vista – Moro and Alegria

Part 2 of double day post. Moro and Alegria from the Buena Vista Cuban Academy. Moro and Alegria’s performance takes the cake, words cant explain it, you simply have to see it to believe it. Pictures below:-

This is the first time I have seen Moro and Alegria perform and I was skeptical at first. I wasnt sure what style of dance they were doing and how I should line up my shots. Compared to the first 4 shows, I have either seen the routine before or seen them dance multiple times which made shooting easy.

Shooting Moro and Alegrio was ALOT of fun! Their performance factor is amazing to say the least with non-stop crowd teasers of increasingly insane moves. Suffice to say, shooting them was a breeze.

The last move of the routine, keeping the best for last…

It was certainly an eye opener to watch Moro and Alegria perform with their spot on musicality and crowd pleasers. I cant wait to see them again!

Thats the last set of photos from the October Salsa Fest. The next dance event post will feature the Brisbane Latin Christmas Party hosted by Smooth Latin Energy Steps. Follow these links to see the other posts during the October Salsa Fest:-

(photos)Sunday October Salsa Fest 4 – LDA – Neil and Mary-Grace Brown

I have been very slack from over the past week training for the performances(video will be up soon!) and recovering. To make it up, Im going to do a double post day to complete the October Salsa Fest series. First off, I have Neil and Mary from Latin Dance Australia.

I got the chance to dance with Mary on Friday and that had got to be one of the best dances I have ever had.

I am really looking forward to more dances with her in the future, particularly during the Sydney Salsa Congress in January!
