Traditionally the groomsmen (yes, you can have more than 1) will help out e.g. remind the best man to bring along the wedding ring, make sure the groom turns up to the church on time, maybe help usher guests into the church although traditionally there are also usherers appointed specifically for this purpose, repeatedly straightening the groom's bow tie/ flower button, help out during the yam sengs i.e. surreptitiously emptying the groom's glass so he doesn't become too drunk ...
